Making Waves - Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema

Presented by Create Hong Kong to celebrate Hong Kong Specail Administrative Region (HKSAR)'s 25th anniversary, this world-touring film programme will land in Seoul with the collaboration of the Korean Film Archive and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo (HKETO). The Seoul edition of Making Waves will kick off on 23 September with Stanley Kwan's Rouge, digitally restored in 4K, starring the immortal Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung. It will aslo showcase films by eight other filmmakers, including outstanding works by three notable veterans: Ah Ying (1983) by Allen Fong, Autumn's Tale (1987) by Mabel Cheung, and July Rhapsody (2003) by Ann Hui, until 2 October.
The programme will also spotlight emerging talents with three directorial debuts: renowned art director Man Lim Chung's Keep Rolling, Judy Chu's Sunshine of My Life, and Terry Ng's Pretty Heart, whose leading actress Jennifer Yu will attend the gala screening in person on 24 September and participate in the post screening sharing with the audience. Making Waves will round off with 12 days by Aubrey Lam and Fagara by Heiward Mak - two films by Hong Kong new generation of prominent female filmmakers.
The Making Waves programme was first launched in Italy's Udine in April 2022. Before visiting Seoul, it has already been to Bali, London, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Copenhagen, Sydney, and Singapore. It plans to travel to Stockholm, Shanghai, Honolulu, Tokyo, Prague, and Dubai before the end of the year.
