In April, the Curator's Choice will be featuring two films, Aftersun, directed by Charlotte Wells, and The Whale, directed by Darren Aronofsky. Both films received Oscar nominations for Best Actor (Paul Mescal for Aftersun and Brandon Fraser for The Whale) and Best Supporting Actor (Hong Chau for The Whale) for their outstanding performances, with Brandon Fraser winning Best Actor for his portrayal of the 272kg giant Charlie in The Whale. As Sophie, now an adult, recalls a summer holiday with her father 20 years earlier, and Charlie, a father who has rejected the world, invites his teenage daughter Ellie, whom he hasn't seen in years, to visit, two moving films touch on the inner workings of loneliness and fear.
