CinemathequeKOFA presents ‘KOFA Double Feature: Microscopic Cosmos,’ a presentation of three feature films that make creative use of microscopic photography to express the grandeur of outer space. Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life and Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey feature organic effects that help instill a sense of awe-inspiring gravitas to the visual storytelling that simply cannot be replicated through CGI. Beyond lending the visual effects of these films a sense of timelessness, the connection established between the micro and the macro serves to remind us that the world we inhabit is infinite beyond our comprehension, whether we turn our gaze inward towards the microorganisms that form the basis of life or outward towards the vast expanses of the stars.
