13th Japan Foundation Movie Festival - Cinema & Literature 2

"The 13th Japan Foundation Movie Festival", an annual event co-organized by the Japan Foundation and the Korean Film Archive, will be held from January 31 to February 21, 2025. Following the 16 films based on the original works of eight modern and contemporary Japanese writers in 2023, the "Film and Literature 2" program will feature the rarely seen With Beauty and Sorrow (1965) by Nobel Prize winner Yasunari Kawabata, the masterpiece I Am a Cat (1975) by Natsume Soseki, one of the greatest novelists of the Meiji era, and A Fugitive from the Past (1964) by Tsutomu Mizukami, one of the leading writers of post-war Japanese literature, Flowing (1956) by Aya Koda, who has been writing about women's lives and families, and The Woman in the Dunes (1964) and The Face of Another (1966) by Kobo Abe, who has been called the magician of surrealist literature.
In addition, the "Film and Literature 2" will showcase the original works of Seicho Matsumoto, who founded the genre of Japanese socialist detective novels, including Zero Focus (1961), The Flag in the Mist (1965), and The Castle of Sand (1974), and Yokomizo Seishi's Inugami Family (1976) and The Devil's Island (1977), which created the well-known Japanese detective Kosuke Kindaichi.
Films
