Manchuria Movie Association and Chosun Movies

2011

A book that shows the process of the birth, activities, and fall of the “Manchuria Movie Association,” the full account of which has not been well-known! Established in 1937 in Manchuria, this movie association has been called “a black box of the contemporary history of North East Asia,” producing approximately 600 films and taking charge of movie distribution and screening tours in Manchuria. Furthermore, it was an international association that produced?jointly with Korea Film Company in Chosun and made idol star Lee Hyang-ran in the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere. The author, Professor Kim Lyeo-sil of the Department of Korean Language and Literature of Busan National University, restored the site at that time with meticulous data survey and interpretation and neat storytelling.
