It contains four historical plays as biographies of historical persons produced between the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s. For the first time among the Korean Film Archive’ classical cinema collections, it selected genre historical plays among Korean movies through the following viewpoints: “movies and history” and “politics·society and movies.” The four historical plays’ backgrounds range from the Late Period of Chosun to the Japanese colonial period. However they project the period of political ferment of Korean society ranging from the end of the 1950s to the beginning of the 1960s. 

Movie fans interested in the work to restore a series of classical movies shown by the Korean Film Archive to date may take notice of <Empire Gojong and An Jung-Geun, the Patriot (Gojonghwangje-wa uisa An Junggeun)>. The film, collected from Gukdo Theater in 1999, was analog-restored by Imagika film laboratory in Japan and later digitally restored by the Korean Film Archive to be contained in this DVD as a restored HD video. As an appendix, a Korean/English pamphlet (48 pages) containing annotation by Korean movie history researcher Lee Sun-jin (「"Current Affair Films" or "Memorial Films": The Recreation of the Colonial Period in Biographical Films of the Late 1950s」). The main DVD contains a video comparing before and after the restoration (7 minutes) of <Empire Gojong and An Jung-Geun, the Patriot> and an image gallery.
