Lee Man-hee Collection

Lee Man-hee Collection

Director: Lee Man-hee

Year : 2010

As a director’s series of classic film collection on DVD, Director Lee Man-hee’s box set was launched following the release of the box set works of film directors Shin Sang-ok, Kim Ki-young, and Yu Hyun-mok in 2007, 2008, and 2009, respectively. It comes with the 4 most prominent works of Lee Man-hee in the 1960s: <The Marines Who Never Returned>(1963), <Black Hair>(1964), <A Day Off>(1968), and <Assassin>(1969). <The Marines Who Never Returned>(1963) is considered a Korean War movie masterpiece. <Black Hair>(1964) is a Korean-style Noir combining action Noir and melodrama. <A Day Off>(1968) was not played in cinema in 1968 but made its debut for the first time in 2005 courtesy of the Korean Film Archive. <Assassin>(1969) stands out, thanks to the unique experimental spirit of the director. In particular, <Black Hair> film, which used to be damaged severely, was restored to extremely high quality through digital restoration. It contains a commentary track by Korea’s most famous film directors, making this film all the more valuable.
