Shin Sang-ok Collection Shin Sang-ok Collection Director: Shin Sang-ok Year : 2007 The Shin Sang-ok Collection contains a set of director Shin Sang-ok’s five representative films bundled on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of his death. It consists of director Shin Sang-ok’s five following representative works in the 1960s when his production capability was at its peak: ‘A Romantic Papa’, the best family drama in the early 1960s, in which Kim Seung-ho, Ju Jeung-ryu, Cho Eun-hee, and Kim Jin-kyu played enthusiastically; director Shin Sang-ok’s representative work ‘Mother and a Guest’, which enables even today’s audience to remember him; ‘Seong Chun-hyang’, which was an unprecedented box office hit, thus opening the golden age for the Shin Film; ‘Deaf Samryongi’, which shows his delicate production ability and Kim Jin-kyu’s and Park Nou-sik’s enthusiastic acting; and ‘Thousand Years Old Fox’, which is representative of the original version of the earliest horror films in Korea’s film history. ‘Seong Chun-hyang’, in particular, is the version edited directly by director Shin Sang-ok to be closest to the original version. The Collection also contains Hongik Univ. professor Ahn Jin-soo’s theories of Shin Sang-ok’s direction and works to enable the general public to understand his works easily. Professor Ahn is also actively working as a researcher for the Korean Film Archive. It also contains a documentary “Director Shin Sang-ok Special” produced by the Korean Film Archive, and an interview with film elder Hwang Nam who once worked as a producer for the Shin Film in its early stage, which will help illuminate director Shin Sang-ok’s film world. |
