Classical Movie Collection Homebound Director: Lee Man-hee Year : 2015
In this movie, director Lee Man-hee’s artistic sense stands out. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Lee’s death, this movie was released in DVD form for the first time in Korea. In the movie, set 14 years after the Korean War, the fate of a wife (Moon Jung-sook) who takes care of her husband (Kim Jin-gyu) who became disabled during the war is delivered together with his pain in a modern way. The movie depicts the appearance of his wife from behind when she goes to wake up her husband on the second floor every morning, and follows her up and down the stairs of Seoul Station where she goes every day to deliver a manuscript to a newspaper company in Seoul on behalf of her husband. The movie is particularly filled with scences of going up and down stairs.
The DVD booklet contains a commentary from movie critic Lee Yeon-ho and an audio commentary in the supplement by movie critic Jeong Seong-il that will become a guideline to understand the esthetics of the outstanding images in this movie. In particular, the audio commentary provides a detailed analysis on each scene in the movie and helps viewers to participate in the mood of the movie and feel its attractiveness. |
