Director Lee Jang-ho’s effort to make “Heavenly Homecoming to Stars,” a novel by Choi In-ho that was a symbol of youth culture, into a movie was huge news at the time. It was a big issue in the movie industry that the rights for a novel that cream of the crop directors were coveting were handed over to a new director. The dialogue in the movie,
“Gyeong-ah, it’s been a long time since we lay down together like this,” left a deep impression, while Lee Jang-hui’s music, which started with “I shall give you all,” appealed to middle-aged viewers. As such, the movie was a sensation when it premiered in 1974 and received rave reviews for having a “fresh and rapid tempo,” and “balanced ensemble between the music and the movie.” It caused a huge boom as a youth movie together with the youth culture trend of the time.
 
“Heavenly Homecoming to Stars,” which was released on Blu-ray, is unusual for the fact that it was digitally restored. The movie’s digital restoration, such as removing dust, scratches and torn frames, will provide an opportunity for viewers to immerse themselves in a clearer picture and colors.
 
The Blu-ray contains an interview with director Lee Jang-ho by Professor Kim Hong-jun, director of the Korea National University of Arts. It is an opportunity to hear about the motivation for the production and the honest thoughts of the director about the society and culture of that time.
