Blu-ray Collection Chil-su and Man-su Director: Park Kwang-su Year : 2015
“Chil-su and Man-su,” “Black Republic” (1990), and “To the Starry Island” (1993) are movies by director Park Gwang-su that depict life with sympathy and take a dispassionate view of society. The main characters are Man-su, whose father is serving a long term in prison and thus never had a proper job, and Chil-su, who seeks to escape from reality by being immersed in the American dream. As such, the movie shows the happiness and sadness of Korean society in the 1980s.
“Chil-su and Man-su” is a movie that received rave reviews for directing by a new director for depicting the common people surrounding us. This movie will provide a new opportunity for viewers to remember Seoul in the 1980s, which was the main living space of the characters. This Blu-ray release contains a collection of production site and movie studio photos signed by the director that provide an opportunity to see the younger versions of actors Ahn Sung-ki, Park Joong-hoon and Bae Jong-ok, who are the backbone of the present-day Korean movie industry. There is also an audio commentary with an interview with director Park Gwang-su by critic Kim Yeong-jin, a professor at Myongji University, in which he tells interesting stories about the motivation for the production through filming episodes. |
