Shin Dong-hun Animation Collection

Director: Shin Dong-hun

Year : 2016

This is an exhibition on the animations A Story of Hong Gil-dong and by director Sin Dong-heon, a pioneer in Korean animation. A Story of Hong Gil-dong, which was considered to be lost, was recovered after 40 years with the help of the Japanese company Planet Bibliotheque in May 2008. A Story of Hong Gil-dong, which gained an unconventional popularity when it came out in 1967, was made with celluloid gelatin obtained from a U.S. Army reconnaissance film, and is famous for not meeting the deadline, so they worked relentlessly on it for 15 more days. It is an animation from the time when there was a lack of people who could produce animations, and hardships presented themselves everywhere, but still Sin Dong-heon and his brother Sin Dong-u, who was an artist, made it with their passion and genius. This DVD box set contains an audio guide by Na Ho-won, a director and animation researcher who directed The King of Pigs and The Fake, and also an interview with director Sin Dong-heon by the Korean Film Archive. The animation is a 2K digital version which went through a color and image revision.
