Based on annalistic and folk legends of the Kyivan Rus period. The film focuses on an uneasy, controversial fate of an ordinary girl Olha, who became a wife of Prince Ihor, and after his death a successor, and a conspicuous stateswoman. After having converted to Christianity in Constantinople, she put the Rus in the same league with other peoples. Year after year, she endeavoured to strengthen her state, struggled for unification of the Rus.
