In 1951, Kim Seon-myeong is sentenced to 15 years in prison for violating the National Defense Law. Two years later he is sentenced again for acting as a spy to life imprisonment. From Seoul prison to Mapo, from Daegu to Daejeon, Mokpo, again Daejeon … In 1970, non-converter prisoners Kim Seon-myeong, Lee Yeong-un, An Hak-seop, Nam Yeong-man, and Jong-dal gather in Daegu prison, all wishing for reunification. Longing for the reunification of the country, they are surviving in the prison, which is more painful than death. The foreman of the non-converter group, O Tae-sik, who has lost all his family and even one leg by the peoples' army, tries to reform them but little is accomplished. At last, Oh Tae-sik decides to torture them using former gangsters within the prison. Their only hope is reunification.
