A three-year old boy watches a puppet show, and his facial expressions reflect the widest range of emotion: amazement, fear, curiosity, joy. As this little person lives through the battle between good and evil, his experience and emotional maturity increase over the course of ten minutes. This is a legendary film not just in Latvia but also in international documentary filmmaking history – a portrait of a child’s soul filmed in one precisely calculated, unedited shot. It is the best example of the Riga School of Poetic Documentary Cinema – a chrestomathic film, an expression of soul, in which the talent of the director and camera operator is combined. Ten Minutes Older is a film that never gets it continues to be shown to film students around the world and is included in international film festivals. In 2002, the film inspired world-famous directors to unite in a short film project in which director Herz Frank’s idea was developed by Jim Jarmusch, Werner Herzog, Jean-Luc Godard, Bernardo Bertolucci, Wim Wenders, Aki Kaurismaki and others.
