NEVER SLEEP AGAIN

Director : Pia Frankenberg
1992 92min D-Cinema 1.85:1
Rita, Lilian, and Roberta are invited to a friend’s wedding on a riverboat in Berlin.  Rita gets into a fight with her ex-boyfriend after running into him and the three end up getting off the boat.  When their car breaks down and they are unable to find a hotel room, they roam the streets of Berlin and are confronted by the scars of the past revealed after the fall of the Wall in a city where something new is brewing.   Like the director’s intention which she states as “I don’t want to tell a story. No total identification with the people on screen. Recognition, sure. A test set-up”, the film relies on the improvised acting of three different characters in front of the camera.
