UNDER MY SKIN

Director : Crescentia Duenßer , Martina Doecker
1999 91min 35mm
Extremely personal questions - such as about their birth, their first experience, their period, their first kiss, what their dreams were, and aging – are asked of six women born between 1907 ~ 1925. They each talk calmly about their lives as they face the past they remember of having experienced World War II and lived under a Nazi state. The answers that the six people with diverse backgrounds give to very intimate questions as they talk candidly about their experiences themselves also represent the history of Germany.  The physical bodies and accumulation of the testimony of these older women shot in black and white resonate much more deeply than any image or story and move the hearts of viewers.
