Dorothy and Edna are models. On their way home from Coney Island, they bet on if Dorothy could attract Eddie Collins's attention. Dorothy has a fear of her restrict brother who acts as her guardian. Eddie is attraced to Dorothy and proposes her for marriage. She says yes.
Pre-Code films, before the Motion Picture Production Code censorship guidelines, known as the Hays Code in 1934, had much freedom iin describing sex, violence, drugs, and same-sex and interracial romance. This film realistically captured the lives of ordinary people during the Great Depression and gave director Borzage another Oscar for Best Director. Preserved by the Museum of Modern Art with support from the Celeste Bartos Fund for Film Preservation.
