Rain Outside the Porthole (Binalineun seonchangga)
In 1946, Tae-woong, a man nicknamed “The Bear” who dominated the streets of Busan with his fists, have returned after twenty years. Tae-woong is still haunted by his former love, Yeonsuk, and is confused when he meets Jung-hee, who looks exactly like Yeonsuk. Meanwhile, Dal-ji, a former subordinate of Tae-woong's, schemes to get rid of him.
Although set in the immediate aftermath of Korea's liberation in 1946, the film has a modern look and the sentiments of a 1960s melodrama, giving it a timeless feel. Unlike other movies of the time, it stands out for showing a narrative of hope rather than doom through the conflict and growth of generations. In particular, Tae-woong, played by Jang Dong-hwi, portrays a strong and dedicated 'Father' who guides the young man's growth with sincerity.
