Just like the other meaning of 'Dummy,' his seemingly foolish actions prove to be braver than those of any living human.
Mother Land
PARK Jae-beom │ Korea │ 2022 │ 69min
A young girl of the Yeitz tribe, 'Grisha,' lives with her family amidst the vast tundra. One day, when her mother is gravely injured while trying to save her, Grisha sets out on a journey to find the ‘Lord of the Forest,’ the Red Bear, in hopes of curing her. Meanwhile, a Russian soldier, pursuing the Red Bear for his own reasons, becomes a looming threat along her path.
"Mother Land" vividly recreates a foreign landscape through meticulous research and a profound understanding of nature. Fully utilizing the unique temporal flexibility of stop-motion animation and avoiding the use of CG, it portrays a tactile realism imbued with an otherworldly, dreamlike texture rarely attainable in live-action imagery. The spark of adventure briefly and powerfully glimpsed in the short film "DUMMY NO WAY OUT" expands here into a richly developed narrative set within an entirely new universe.
