Turning Gate
Gyung-soo (Kim Sang-kyung) is a fairly well-known actor in the theater world. He starred in a film relying entirely on a director he knows well, but the movie flops at the box office. He stubbornly insists on receiving his box-office bonus, only to get a paltry 1 million won. To make matters worse, his promised casting in a future project falls through. Wondering, "What do I do now?", he heads down to Chuncheon to visit an older colleague who is a writer. There, he meets a dancer (Ye Ji-won) who claims to be his fan, and they grab some drinks together. She expresses her interest in Gyung-soo, and their relationship unexpectedly and rapidly progresses. The line, "It's hard to be a true human being, but let's at least not become monsters," acts as a bizarre spell that pierces through the film. In director Hong Sang-soo's fourth feature film, the boundaries between truth and temptation, and loyalty and deceit, become as ambiguous as fog.
