In the demilitarized zone just after the armistice. A young girl named Yeong-a, wandering in search of her mother, falls into a stream and is rescued by a boy wearing an MP helmet, a tattered North Korean uniform adorned with medals, and carrying a pistol. With nowhere else to turn in the devastated landscape, the two lean on each other and set off together. Amidst abandoned tanks, corpses, landmines, and unexploded shells, they struggle against hunger and danger — only to discover that the greatest threat is not the weapons, but the people.
The first Korean film to shoot on location in the actual DMZ, just twelve years after the armistice, under strict military supervision. Rather than depicting ideological conflict, the film captures human survival and tragedy in its most raw form, delivering a powerful anti-war message through the contrast between the children's innocence and the brutality of war. 2020 4K restoration.
