On a vast Texas ranch, a marriage between an East Coast socialite and a wealthy cattleman brings together two contrasting visions of American life. As generations pass, conflicts over class, race, family, and identity reshape both the household and the land it inhabits. Personal relationships become inseparable from the larger transformations unfolding across the American Southwest.

George Stevens's Giant stands as one of Hollywood's most ambitious attempts to grapple with the mythology of the American frontier and its aftermath. Expansive in scope yet attentive to intimate social tensions, the film charts the collision between tradition and modernity in postwar America. Its fusion of family drama, social critique, and epic scale has secured its place among the most revered works of classical Hollywood cinema, championed by filmmakers including Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. One of only three films starring James Dean, he tragically died in a car accident at the age of 24 just days after completing the filming of this movie.
