All You Need to Make a Movie Is a Gun / Para hacer una pelicula solo hace falta un arma

Director : Santiago Sein |
2026 | 146min | D-Cinema |
A chance encounter with a cache of discarded film cans leads filmmaker Santiago Sein into an unexpected investigation. As unidentified reels are examined and fragments of unfinished works brought back to light, traces emerge of a vibrant community of student filmmakers active in Cordoba during the 1960s and 1970s. What begins as an act of salvage gradually uncovers a cinematic culture disrupted by political repression, transforming the search for lost films into a journey through memories, absences, and histories thought to have vanished.

Blending archival research, personal inquiry, and cinematic essay, All You Need to Make a Movie is a Gun reconstructs a largely forgotten chapter of Argentine film culture. Alongside the stories embedded within the images, the film pays close attention to the material life of cinema itself: cameras, film stock, editing equipment, and the fragile mechanisms through which moving images are created, circulated, and preserved. Through films interrupted by political violence and the testimonies of those who survived, Sein explores how cinema persists not only in memory but also in the fragile material traces left behind by its makers.
