In April 1980, in the coal-mining town of Sabuk, Gangwon Province, miners enraged by harsh working conditions took control of the town and erected barricades.

A cry of “The police have killed someone!” pierced the night air. As the miners rose in revolt, the police suffered heavy losses and were forced to retreat.

Then, armed martial law troops were dispatched to Sabuk.

Forty-five years later, the survivors speak out. Yet their memories conflict, and they accuse one another of being perpetrators.

A forgotten tragedy of modern Korean history.

One month before Gwangju, this documentary uncovers the buried truth of Sabuk.
