Film director Gustave, who left home many years ago, returns to offer his daughter Nora—now an actress—the lead role in his new film, calling it "a script I wrote for you." Unlike her younger sister, Nora has never felt comfortable with her father, and she turns down the offer. The role ultimately goes to a Hollywood star. Bound by a relationship that has neither healed nor can truly be left behind, the two sisters and their father confront themselves—and one another—in ways they never could before, through the making of a single film.
