1977 | 103min | D-Cinema |

The detective parody Adela Has Not Had Her Supper Yet is one of the films that spread the fame of Czech cinema worldwide. Director Oldrich Lipský and screenwriter Jirí Brdecka reunited for this project, drawing inspiration from their shared fascination with American pulp fiction and trashy cinema. The story follows Nick Carter, a brilliant American private detective armed with sophisticated gadgets, who travels to turn-of-the-century Prague. He teams up with the experienced Commissar Ledvina—a genial lover of the Prague underworld and Pilsner beer—to solve a mysterious disappearance at Countess Thun’s mansion. The mismatched duo soon tracks down the evil Baron von Kratzmar. His weapon is Adele, a giant flesh-eating plant created by surrealist artist Jan Švankmajer, which gets hungry whenever it hears a specific Mozart lullaby. While the bizarre carnivorous plant is a major attraction, the film's true charm lies in its brilliant situational comedy and wordplay. These gags primarily stem from the hilarious contrast between the impeccable, hyper-logical American detective and the wonderfully eccentric, unpredictable Czech environment.
