Soonyoung is a female worker who has come to the city from the countryside. Her story begins as a recollection. Born into a poor family, Soonyoung takes a job at a garment factory in the Guro Industrial Complex at the age of seventeen to support her struggling mother, her older brother who is studying, and her younger siblings. Dreaming of becoming a sewing machine operator, she tenaciously endures low wages and long working hours, while also dreaming of marriage as a way out of the tedious factory life. Soonyoung eventually becomes a sewing machine operator and falls in love with Sung-soo, a worker at a nearby factory. To save money, they move in together and enjoy a blissful time, but when Soonyoung becomes pregnant, Sung-soo suddenly changes. Afraid of being left alone, she clings to him, only for their relationship to deteriorate further. Eventually, Soonyoung returns to the factory, taking a step toward a life of her own….

The film was made to promote healthy attitudes toward sexuality, romance, and marriage among women workers. It was produced by the Korean Women Workers Association, founded in 1987 and renamed the Seoul Women Workers Association in 1992. The restored version, digitally scanned from the slides used for the original screenings in the 1980s, will have its world premiere at the festival.
