In a future city where all resources have been exhausted and human excrement remains the only source of energy, those in power strictly monitor citizens’ bowel movements and reward high-output defecators with “Hard,” a drug-laced popsicle. Aachi and Ssipak, two small-time thugs whose names are as disreputable as they are, roam the city in search of more Hard. They soon become entangled with the Diaper Gang, mutants who have lost both their ability to defecate and their reproductive functions as a side effect of the drug and have shrunk to dwarf-like proportions; Geko, a superhuman agent created by the government from a corpse to eliminate them; and Beautiful, a woman with mysterious powers. What follows is a bloody battle awash in sweat and excrement.

In the world of 〈Aachi & Ssipak〉, the boundary between human and nonhuman is anything but clear. The mutants and enhanced humans may appear to fall outside the conventional category of the human, yet it is the ruling system—one that converts citizens’ bodies into resources and regulates even their bodily waste—that most starkly exposes the violence embedded in human society. The film strips away the manners and pretenses with which humanity has clothed itself, bringing the most private and supposedly abject functions of the body to the foreground. The chaotic spectacle of humans and nonhumans scrambling after excrement overturns taboos surrounding the filthy and the vulgar, offering a strange sense of liberation.
