4K Digitally Restored Films : Chung Ji-young
Date : 2025.10.22.Wed ~ 10.25.Sat
The Korean Film Archive presents a special screening of two films by director Chung Ji-young, newly restored in 4K digital format between 2024 and 2025. Since his debut in 1982, Chung has been one of Korea’s leading realist filmmakers, known for his unflinching portrayals of the structural contradictions and injustices of Korean society. Through a body of work spanning over four decades, he has offered profound insight into the human condition while confronting the pains of the times, leaving a lasting impact on both critics and audiences alike.
This special screening celebrates Chung Ji-young’s receipt of the Korean Cinema Retrospective Award at the 2025 Busan International Film Festival. Two of his key works—The Mist Whispers Like a Woman (1982), his directorial debut, and Life of Hollywood Kid (1994)—have been digitally restored in 4K and will be presented to audiences in newly revitalized form. Notably, The Mist Whispers Like a Woman will have its first public screening since the completion of its restoration, making this an especially meaningful occasion.
Through this screening, we hope to shed renewed light on Chung Ji-young’s timeless cinematic vision and critical social insight, while also sharing the achievements of ongoing Korean film restoration efforts with the public.
