For November's Curator's Choice, we have selected director Tomoaki Fujino’s What Should We Have Done?, a film that gazes into the hidden pain and years of silence within the intimate confines of a family, while sharply piercing through the contemporary issues of care gaps and social isolation. Capturing over twenty years in the lives of a sister who began showing symptoms of schizophrenia at age twenty-four and parents who—despite being medical researchers—chose to lock their daughter inside the house instead of seeking hospital treatment due to the fear of social stigma, this deeply personal film poses a heavy social question to us all, just as its title suggests: "What should we have done?"
