Poverty and a severe convulsion of his hands make Simone, an artist, to stop painting.  But with the help of Len, he gains courage to paint again.  When the war breaks out, Simone gets abducted by the North Korean army.  He is forced to paint the portraits of Stalin, until one day Len succeeds in helping him to escape.  Len's friendship toward Simone, however, doesn't last long, as his wife demands the two stop seeing each other.  In the middle of the war Simone sees Len on refuge, heading a group of orphans.  When she dies in the cry of orphans, Simone decides to take them on his refuge.
