"Daddy, I can't see what you see and you can't see what I see. How can we know more than half the truth?"

Centered around a Taipei middle-class family: the Father (WU Nien-Jen), a partner in a computer company facing career dilemma is reunited with his first love; the Mother tries to seek deliverance from her empty life through religion and leaves home; the Daughter (Kelly LEE) discovers that first love is never a smooth course; while eight year old Yang Yang (Jonathan CHANG) likes to photograph the adults’ backs because this is the side they cannot see; old Grandmother is bedridden after a stroke; and the newly married Uncle is already having trouble with his family… Through characters in three generations, Yang has intertwined life, times, and contemporary urban landscape into one meticulous, methodical tempo, delicately demonstrating the complexity of existence. Each character comes with a complete and profound depiction from manner and temperament, and intrinsically related and connected through their past and present, a successful agglomeration of the characteristics of Yang’s works from different eras. But no one expected that this would have been his final bow.   [WEN Tien-Hsiang, 12th BIFF 2007]
