Lopez’s use of humor and delirium to address social and racial issues positions his sole feature in a special place in Brazilian cinema. Independently produced in southern Brazil, at a time when virtually no Black directors were active, the film evokes both classic Brazilian comedies and the psychedelic experimentation of the 1960s.
