[Beyond...] Onda Nova / New Wave
In 1983, the year women's football was officially recognized in Brazil, a group of girls forms a team. With support from famous players of the time, they confront societal prejudices and navigate personal challenges while preparing for an international match.
A self-declared successor to the Marginal generation, 'Onda Nova' features actors from the earlier movement and was produced in the same region: Sao Paulo's underworld. The narrative centers on a women's football team and their sexual escapades, told in a fragmented, delirious style. A freewheeling portrait of Brazil during the contradictions of re-democratization.
