Director : Nam June Paik | Cast : John Cage, Laurie Anderson
89min | 디지털파일 |
Good Morning, Mr. Orwell (1984) is Nam June Paik's first satellite art project, created to refute George Orwell's gloomy prophecy that mass media would control humanity by instead presenting the potential of "positive communication through art." Real-time satellite links connected New York and Paris, broadcasting simultaneously to an estimated 25 million viewers worldwide. Legendary avant-garde figures, including John Cage, Laurie Anderson, and Joseph Beuys, participated to deliver a monumental live performance that merged music, dance, and visual art.

Bye Bye Kipling (1986) is a project that utilized satellite technology to overturn poet Rudyard Kipling's declaration that "East and West shall never meet," aiming for a cultural fusion of the two worlds. Coinciding with the Seoul Asian Games, it linked Seoul, Tokyo, and New York in real time to establish a two-way dialogue between Asia and the West. The broadcast visualized global harmony by weaving together traditional Korean dance, Japanese Kabuki, American pop culture, and contemporary art into Paik's inventive media collage.
