Eleanor is a compulsive thief who seeks out strangers on the streets of New York and steals their belongings. Her impulsive acts of theft allow her to slip into the cracks of everyday life, encounter unfamiliar worlds, and turn chance encounters into unexpected adventures.
Josh Safdie’s feature debut. The director described the film as "sketches from the gut," and shot it without a detailed screenplay, following the improvisational approach of jazz. Originally commissioned as a promotional short for a handbag brand, the film captures the vibrant energy of New York's streets and the people who inhabit them, bringing out the unexpected moments hidden within everyday life. Selected for the Directors' Fortnight at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
