Jointly organized by the Korean Film Archive and the Hong Kong Film Archive, and presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Government of the HKSAR of the People's Republic of China, the program “Movies-To-Go, Border Crossings in Hong Kong Cinema-Korea” will be held at Cinematheque KOFA from October 15 (Wed) to 25 (Sat) as part of the “Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul” (Sept 26 – Oct 25).

This special screening program features six films: four Hong Kong classics from the 1960s to the 1980s and two Hong Kong-Korea co-productions. One of the highlights is the world premiere of the 4K restored version of The Story of a Discharged Prisoner (1967), a legendary film often regarded as the precursor to the iconic A Better Tomorrow (1986) by John Woo, starring Chow Yun-fat and Leslie Cheung.

The program also features a 4K digital restoration of King Hu’s Come Drink with Me, the film that launched Cheng Pei-pei to stardom as the first female swordswoman in Hong Kong wuxia cinema. Also included is The Valiant Ones, a classic known for its exhilarating action sequences.

In addition, audiences will have the rare opportunity to see Special Agent X-7, a Korean take on the James Bond genre, directed by Chung Chang-hwa, a legendary figure in Korean action cinema, and shot across Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. Also screening is The Brave Tanks, a Korea-Hong Kong co-production directed by Kim Dong-hak.

Renowned Hong Kong film scholars and critics Sam Ho and Joyce Yang will also join the program to offer in-depth commentary and talks, enriching the audience’s understanding of Hong Kong cinema.

This program aims to deepen the friendship between Korea and Hong Kong, while opening new avenues for cultural and cinematic exchange between the two regions.
