When you watch a film in a theater, it rarely yields to a single reading. As you follow the film, it is only natural to recall works you have seen before. Cinema renews its meanings through a chain of relations with other films—and that chain crosses national borders. Tracing the threads of where a film comes from and what it transforms, feeling your way along those connections, is one of the real pleasures of watching movies.

This program is built around three films—The Glimmering, The Fin and Kike Will Hit a Home Run (listed in Korean alphabetical order)—which have screened at festivals but have not yet received their theatrical release. The accompanying films in this program are not bound solely by the director’s statements or reference lists. Works the directors consulted during production are important clues, but once a film is completed, it can form new networks of meaning—and continue to expand—through the interpretations of audiences and critics.

For that reason, this program does not fix the accompanying films into a single trajectory or a single way of reading. Instead, it is designed to dismantle and reconnect the many elements of cinema—narrative, performance, direction, sound, and more—from multiple angles. The accompanying events are likewise prepared to examine, from various perspectives, the world each film builds and its relationship to earlier works.
